We found the Rocky advertisement (titled “Ah Vote Day”) for John McCain to be humorous and informative. The ad was created after he won the New Hampshire primary. It is evident that he is being compared to Rocky Balboa. In the movie Rocky, the main character struggles at the beginning, works very hard in the middle, and succeeds in the end. The ad targets those who don’t think he is going to make it, like Rocky, he was behind and came back to win the New Hampshire primary and hopes to succeed in the end.

Our group found this clip interesting, pertaining to John McCain’s stance on the United States’ torture policies. Having participated in the Vietnam War, he was a prisoner of war for over five years. McCain himself endured methods of torture before he was finally released after the Paris Peace Accords. We think that McCain’s anti-torture stance is good for his image. It shows him to be not only a very moral candidate, but one who is compassionate to other soldiers. Also, his outspoken views on war policies help him to remind the public of his patriotic veteran status.

This is a link to McCain’s acceptance speech at the RNP that our group found the most interesting. It gives a text of the speech as well as a YouTube video of McCain delivering the speech. Although the entire speech is quite interesting and reveals much about McCain as a politician, our group found the very end of his speech the most interesting. About 40 minutes into the speech, McCain begins talking about his experience as a POW in the Vietnam War, a time that began his love of his country. From this point of the speech on, McCain delivers strong words with an emotion and passion that had not been seen from him before. By delivering this emotion he evokes the same in his followers, and truly rallies the convention. The passion at the end of this speech is what our group found most interesting and effective.
